OK, it’s a bit of a departure from the usual format this week. I’m not going to talk about what’s wrong with this year’s John Lewis Christmas video. Partly because they did a great job once again and everyone loves it. Just in case you haven’t seen it, here it is:

 

However, to stick with the ‘How to be Better than…’ theme, I do want to share another Christmas video ad that I think is even better than John Lewis. The department store’s ad benefitted from every journalist with a calendar waiting to write about it as soon as it emerged. No doubt this helped it to reach about 15 million views (so far). However, Burberry recently reached over 5 million views with an absolutely amazing ad that has had much less fanfare in the press.

 

 

This is not a movie trailer. It’s ‘just’ an advert, albeit one starring Domnhall Gleason, Sienna Miller, Dominic West and Lily James and directed by Oscar winner Asif Kapadia. I can’t remember ever seeing an advert that looks as good as this.
