Hi I’m Jim from green spark.

In my previous videos about interviewing people on camera, I have talked about how to get people relaxed on camera and also how to ask the best questions to get the best answers. This time I just wanted to give you a couple of things that you can remind people before you shoot to make sure you get the best video out of it at the end of the day.

The first one, is that your probably making a video where you just want to

use the answers you don’t want to actually feature the questions in the video. So the best thing to do is to remind people that your voice isn’t going to be on the video and they need to answer the questions in complete sentences.

So for example if you asked, what’s the best thing about our product? and they just say price, that’s not going to be useful to you when your editing. However if they say the best thing about your product is price, its pretty cost effective, that’s a good sentence that you can use in the edit. People do sometimes forget to do this and just answer with one word answers. It’s okay to just remind people that we need a full sentence so they will do the answer again and it will be fine.

The next thing is eye contact, now if I’m looking right into the lens of the camera it’s reasonably easy just to keep eye contact with the camera, but as we talked about another time when people are looking at you and having a conversation with you, which is the best way to get an authentic and relaxed conversation, sometimes their eyes stray over to the big distracting camera in the room.

Now, this does happen, it happens to everyone, it often happens at the end of an answer, so they will talk to you and then immediately look off towards the camera and it’s just a matter of reminding people that they need to try and keep looking at you and the best way to do that is for you to keep eye contact with them. So ideally, don’t have a list of questions written down that you have to keep glancing down at, but make sure that you maintain eye contact with them and they will probably keep looking at you.

Thanks very much for watching, I’ll see you next time.

We make one of these videos every Wednesday so if you would like to make sure you don’t miss out follow us on twitter or subscribe yo our YouTube. If you’d like to find out anything more about video marketing or video production then just leave a message in the comments and who knows maybe we will make a video about it.
