Hi I’m Jim from green spark.
When you interview someone on camera often you will get asked for a set of questions in advance so that they can prepare. I don’t like to do this, I think that sometimes if people get the questions in advance, they actually over prepare and you don’t get an authentic interview with them.
I tell them don’t worry, it’s going to be easy questions and all stuff you know the answers to. If there is anything you have trouble with, we won’t use that in the video.
So still they can be somewhat apprehensive about what that first question is going to be and whether they are going to be able to answer it and how they are going to come across.
The best way is just to start with a really easy question. I always use who are you and what do you do here. Being given that question makes people relax quite a lot because they think OK this might not be so hard, I can understand that and answer that one.
The next thing you have to do is listen to the answers they give. If you stick to a rigid list of questions you have got in your head and don’t listen to what they are saying and just go through your questions it can be of putting for them because they don’t feel like they are having a conversation with you. They are saying one thing and you may be changing the subject with the next question. If you listen to the answers that they give they may actually go down a really interesting path and prompt follow up questions and then you are actually having a real conversation with them and they can relax and talk to you like a person and hopefully you get a really good video out of it.
Thanks very much for watching I’ll see you next time.
